The Actuary trains high-quality human resources in the fields of insurance pricing, risk management, and financial analysis, based on the application of knowledge in Mathematics, Statistics, and modern quantitative analytical tools. The curriculum is designed according to international standards and is taught by lecturers trained abroad.

  • This is the first and most reputable undergraduate Actuary program in Vietnam.

  • The program is taught 100% in English.

  • The program is recognized by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) of North America as an internationally accredited Actuary training institution.

  • Students have the opportunity to become members of international Actuary associations.

Graduate outcomes

Students of the Actuary program are equipped with the following knowledge:

  • Students in the English-taught Actuary program are provided with a system of fundamental knowledge in economics, finance, insurance, management, and business administration; basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics, socio-economic analysis and forecasting, modeling, and optimization.

  • Fundamental knowledge of probability theory, statistics, economics, finance, accounting, insurance, and law.

  • In-depth knowledge of programming (coding) for insurance pricing and risk management problems.

  • Methods for identifying, classifying, quantifying, analyzing, and mitigating the financial impacts of risks.

  • Methods for solving optimization problems in: asset-liability management, portfolio selection, pricing and evaluation of insurance/financial products.

Students are equipped with the following skills:

  • Analytical skills: the ability to analyze and solve specific problems; examine complex data to identify patterns, determine trends, and assess risks; propose steps to minimize the negative impacts of risks.

  • Mathematical skills: the ability to work with numbers quickly and accurately.

  • Ability to work under high pressure: Actuaries are capable of completing tasks under strict deadlines, with a high level of responsibility as decisions made have significant and far-reaching impacts.

  • Communication skills: the ability to obtain information from clients and relevant departments such as Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, and senior management to solve given problems; the ability to present work clearly and logically.

  • Teamwork skills: the ability to participate in team activities as required by the job.

  • Independent working skills: the ability to solve problems independently and the ability to lead a team to accomplish specific tasks.

Information technology and foreign language:

  • English: IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with proficient use of English to work effectively in an international environment, continue advanced studies in the context of globalization, including communication, drafting, and translation of Actuary-related documents.

  • Information technology: meeting the standards of the National Economics University, with the ability to use tools and software in programming for data mining, modeling, and optimization of real-world problems.

  • Autonomy and accountability:

  • After graduating from the Actuary specialization, students have the ability to seek job opportunities independently, be self-reliant in life, and take responsibility for their work in accordance with the regulations of their workplace and the law.

Career opportunities

Bachelor of Actuary graduates have good job opportunities in:

  • Insurance companies: Developing, pricing, and evaluating insurance products; managing risks and preparing investment plans;

  • Banks and credit institutions: Managing financial assets and developing risk management models.

  • Financial investment funds: Building and managing investment portfolios; designing, pricing, and evaluating financial assets;

  • Consulting firms: Establishing financial and retirement plans for individuals and businesses; developing models for evaluating socio-economic policies and forecasting;

  • Government agencies: Managing programs and supervising the financial activities of companies; working as researchers.

Students have opportunities to pursue higher education:

  • During their studies, students have favorable conditions to enroll in joint Bachelor–Master Actuary programs with Lyon 1 University – French Republic and Master’s and Doctoral programs at foreign universities.

Students have opportunities to obtain professional certifications:

  • Many courses in the program are recognized by the Society of Actuaries (SOA); learners have favorable conditions to obtain professional certifications from international Actuary associations and have opportunities to become members of international Actuary associations.
